Every AC in the UAE removes some water from the air. The question is whether it can hold your home at 50% relative humidity in August. It cannot, and the dry-mode button does not change that.
What the AC actually controls
An air conditioner is sized and controlled for temperature. Sensible cooling lowers the temperature; latent cooling removes moisture. The thermostat only watches the first. When the room hits 24 °C the compressor stops, and so does the drying, even if the air is still at 65%.
Why dry mode is a spring and autumn tool
Dry mode runs the compressor slowly with a low fan to pull out moisture without much cooling. LG's UAE guidance puts it plainly: dry mode handles April and October; a dehumidifier handles June through September plus the year-round moisture in bathrooms, laundry rooms and closed rooms. It cannot usually hold a target humidity level.
Short-cycling and oversized units
A unit too big for the room cools it in minutes and switches off before much water has condensed. In one Dubai inspection the air leaving the supply vent read 88.5% RH.
The fix
A dehumidifier is controlled by a humidistat, not a thermostat. Set 50% and it runs until the room gets there, in any month. A ducted unit does this for the whole home from the ceiling void. Read why your house is humid even with the AC on.
Key points
- AC removes some moisture while it cools, but it stops when the room reaches the set temperature.
- Dry mode helps in the mild months, April and October; it cannot hold a target humidity in June to September.
- A dehumidifier works to a humidity set-point, independent of temperature.
