Humidity control for retail and showrooms

A shop door opens hundreds of times a day, and every opening brings humid air in. Glass fogs, leather and paper stock absorb moisture, finishes mark. Concealed ducted dehumidification with integrated filtration, sized for the door traffic, keeps displays and stock dry without a unit on the shop floor.

What you are seeing

  • Fogged glazing and display cases

Shopfront glass and chilled cases fog when the shop air is more humid than the glass is cold. It is worst in the first hour after opening.

  • Stock damage: leather, paper, textiles, packaging

Boxes soften, labels peel, leather blooms white. The stock room is usually the dampest space in the unit.

  • A musty smell at opening time

The AC idled overnight, the humidity rose, and the first customer smells it before the staff do.

Why it happens

Door traffic is the moisture source: each opening exchanges a slug of humid outdoor air for conditioned air. The AC is set for comfort temperature, not humidity, so by mid-morning the shop is cool and damp.

Stock rooms are often outside the conditioned area or on a separate, weaker unit, so the stock sits at the highest humidity in the building.

A ducted system sized for the door count holds the shop floor and the stock room at a set humidity, filters the air on every pass and keeps the shop floor clear of equipment.

What changes with a ducted system

  • Shop floor and stock room at a set humidity, all day.

  • Nothing on the shop floor: grilles only.

  • Carbon stage takes the musty smell out of the air.

Which system fits

Each pick is a product family, not a model. The survey decides the capacity and the number of units; nothing is sized by floor area alone.

Series R: recirculating ducted dehumidifier

Dries the air already in the building and returns it through its own ducts. The usual choice for villas, apartments, offices and basements.

Most shops need the air they already have dried and filtered. One recirculating unit in the ceiling void covers the floor and the stock room through short duct runs.

  • Sits above the false ceiling with an access panel
  • Grilles over the floor and in the stock room
  • Drains to the AC condensate line

How we fix it, in order

  1. 01

Survey the shop and the stock room

Readings on the floor, in the stock room and at the glazing; door counts through the day; ceiling void, drain and power. During a fit-out we work from the drawings.

  2. 02

    Size for the door traffic

Volume, door openings per hour, glazing area and stock type set the load. Capacity is a datasheet figure.

  3. 03

Install before the ceiling closes, or at night

In a fit-out the unit goes in with the MEP works; in a trading shop the work is done outside opening hours. Setpoints and a readings report at handover.

Retail and showroom questions

Can it be installed during the fit-out?

Yes, and it is the cheapest time. We coordinate with the fit-out contractor so the void, duct routes, drain and power are reserved before the ceiling closes. Fit-out companies can also specify it through our partner programme.

Does it work for a car showroom?

Yes. Large glazed volumes with big doors take a high-capacity unit sized by volume and door schedule, so paintwork, leather interiors and the glass stay dry.

Does it replace the shop's AC?

No. The AC keeps cooling; the dehumidifier holds the humidity on its own ducts and controller. The two are never connected.

Can it serve just the stock room?

Yes. A smaller unit can hold a stock room on its own where the shop floor is fine. The survey readings decide whether both spaces need it.
