Abu Dhabi sits on islands and a long, shallow coast, so its humidity season runs long. The National Center of Meteorology, quoted in UAE media during the July 2024 peak, reported relative humidity between 70 and 95% in coastal and island areas, and The National has reported readings reaching 100%.
The month-by-month table
| Month | Mean RH | Dew point | What it does indoors |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | — | — | Comfortable |
| July | — | — | Peak begins; 70 to 95% on the coast (NCM, as cited) |
| August | — | — | Peak |
| September | — | — | Peak ends late in the month |
Coast, island and inland
The reported peak readings come from coastal and island areas. Saadiyat, Yas, Al Reem and the Corniche feel it first; Khalifa City and Al Ain are drier.
What the season does inside a home
Residents across the UAE describe the same list: water on the glass at dawn, doors and gates that jam, mould in closed wardrobes, and musty smells after a holiday with the AC off. All of it begins once indoor humidity holds above 60%.
The indoor level to aim for
45 to 55% relative humidity all year. The AC alone cannot hold that from July to September; a dehumidifier controlled to a set-point can. See how we install in Abu Dhabi.
Key points
- The peak runs from July to September; coastal and island areas were reported at 70 to 95% relative humidity.
- Readings can reach 100% on the islands and the coast during the worst nights.
- Inside, aim for 45 to 55% RH; the AC alone cannot hold that in summer.
