Humidity control for gyms, spas and wellness
Sweat, showers and steam rooms push a gym past 70 % RH by the evening class. Mirrors fog, rubber floors stay wet and the smell settles into the fabric. Concealed ducted dehumidification with filtration holds the floor, the changing rooms and the spa at a set humidity, with nothing standing on the floor.

What you are seeing
Fogged mirrors and wet floors
By the second class of the evening the mirrors fog and the rubber floor stays slick. The AC is cold; the air is saturated.
Musty changing rooms and lockers
Showers and wet kit keep the changing rooms above the level mould needs, and lockers hold the smell.
An odour that cleaning does not remove
The smell is in the air and the fabric, not on the surfaces. It needs the humidity down and the air filtered.
Why it happens
People exercising add moisture to the air many times faster than people sitting. Add showers, a steam room and a sauna and the load is heavier than the AC was ever selected for. The AC holds temperature; humidity climbs regardless.
The wet areas and the gym floor need different setpoints, and the odour needs filtration as well as drier air. Portable units are not an option on a gym floor.
A ducted system above the ceiling returns air from the floor and the changing rooms, dries it, passes it through a carbon stage and returns it. Where the club needs fresh air too, the fresh-air unit handles it with heat recovery.
What changes with a ducted system
Clear mirrors, dry floors, equipment that does not rust.
Carbon stage takes the odour out of the air on every pass.
Separate setpoints for the floor and the wet areas.
Which system fits
Each pick is a product family, not a model. The survey decides the capacity and the number of units; nothing is sized by floor area alone.
Typical system
Series R: recirculating ducted dehumidifier
Dries the air already in the building and returns it through its own ducts. The usual choice for villas, apartments, offices and basements.
The gym floor needs its air dried and filtered continuously. A recirculating unit in the ceiling void serves the floor through its own grilles.
- Sits above the ceiling with an access panel
- Grilles over the training floor
- Drains to the condensate line
Typical system
Series F: fresh-air dehumidifier with heat recovery
Brings in filtered outdoor air, dries it and recovers energy from the exhaust. For buildings that need a fresh-air supply as well as humidity control.
Clubs need fresh air for the number of people training. The fresh-air unit dries it on the way in and recovers the energy from the exhaust.
- Provides the fresh-air change
- Dries the outdoor air before it reaches the floor
- One unit per floor or studio
Typical system
Series H: high-capacity ducted dehumidifier
For large volumes and heavy moisture loads: warehouses, pool halls, hotel back-of-house and showrooms.
Large clubs, spa floors and pool areas carry a heavier load and take high-capacity units in a plant room.
- Plant room or large void
- Sized from occupancy, wet areas and volume
- Alarms and BMS readout
How we fix it, in order
- 01
Survey at peak time
Readings on the floor and in the wet areas during a busy class, occupancy numbers, the layout of showers, steam and sauna, ceiling void, drain and power.

- 02
Size for peak occupancy and the wet areas
Metabolic moisture at peak, showers, steam room and fresh-air rate give the litres per day per zone. Capacities are datasheet figures.

- 03
Install outside opening hours, commission, hand over
Units above the ceiling, ducts, grilles, drain and controller, installed when the club is closed. Setpoints and a readings report at handover.

Every installation is documented with dated humidity readings, photos and the owner's consent. Nothing is published before it is real; the first case studies are being written.
Gym and spa questions
Can it handle a steam room and sauna?
The steam room itself is a wet area with its own extract; the dehumidifier handles the air that escapes into the changing rooms and corridor. We measure both on the survey so the unit is sized for what actually reaches the dry areas.
Boutique studio or large club: same system?
Same approach, different capacity. A studio usually takes one recirculating unit; a large club takes a unit per zone and often a fresh-air unit as well.
Will members hear it over the music?
The unit sits in the ceiling void; in the room you hear air at the grille. The grille sound level is a datasheet figure, published once confirmed.
Will the smell actually go?
The humidity that lets odour-causing growth thrive comes down, and the carbon stage removes odour from the air on every pass. Soft furnishings that already hold the smell may need cleaning once.
