High indoor humidity, even with the AC running

The AC is running, the room is cool, and the air still feels sticky at 65 % RH. That is normal: an air conditioner controls temperature, and only removes moisture while its compressor runs. Once the room is cold it stops. A ducted dehumidifier holds humidity on its own humidistat, whatever the AC is doing.

What you are seeing

  • Cool but clammy rooms

The thermostat says 22 °C and your skin says damp. Temperature and humidity are two different readings.

  • Fogged glass and damp bedding

Sheets feel cold and damp at night; the windows carry water in the morning. The room sat above its dew point.

  • A humidity meter reading above 60 % with the AC on

A hygrometer settles the argument. One Dubai inspection measured 88.5 % RH at the AC supply vent itself.

Why it happens

An air conditioner removes moisture only as a side effect of cooling, and only while the compressor runs. When the room reaches the set temperature the compressor stops, the fan keeps blowing, and the wet coil can even give moisture back to the air. An oversized unit cools so fast it barely dehumidifies at all.

Dry mode helps for a while but, as LG's own guidance puts it, cannot usually hold a target humidity level. In a sealed apartment with showers, laundry and cooking, that is not enough.

A dehumidifier is controlled by humidity, not temperature. A ducted unit above the ceiling holds the setpoint you choose and lets the AC do its own job.

What changes with a ducted system

  • Humidity controlled separately from temperature.

  • A setpoint you choose, held day and night and while you travel.

  • You stop fighting humidity with the thermostat.

Which system fits

Each pick is a product family, not a model. The survey decides the capacity and the number of units; nothing is sized by floor area alone.

Series R: recirculating ducted dehumidifier

Dries the air already in the building and returns it through its own ducts. The usual choice for villas, apartments, offices and basements.

The room air needs drying independently of the AC. A recirculating unit above the ceiling returns air from the rooms, dries and filters it and supplies it back on its own humidistat.

  • Dedicated return and supply grilles
  • Drains to the AC condensate line

Size for the home, not the AC

Volume, glazing, occupancy, bathrooms and fresh-air supply set the load. Capacity is a datasheet figure.

Install, set the humidity, hand over

Unit above the ceiling, ducts, grilles, drain and the wall controller next to the AC thermostat. A readings report confirms the setpoint is held.

Questions about humidity with the AC on

Why is my house humid even with the AC on?

Because the AC is controlled by temperature. It removes moisture only while the compressor runs, stops when the room is cool, and in a sealed home the moisture from showers, laundry and the fresh-air supply keeps coming. The guide below goes through the causes one by one.

Is AC dry mode enough?

For a mild month, sometimes. In summer it eases the air for a while but cannot hold a target humidity, and it cools the room whether you want it or not. A dehumidifier holds the level you set.

What level should I aim for?

Below 60 % RH to stay out of mould territory, around 50 % for comfort. A cheap hygrometer in the bedroom tells you where you are now.

Does the dehumidifier cool the room?

No. It removes moisture and returns the air slightly warmer than it took it. The AC keeps controlling the temperature; the two systems are never connected.
