What an ERV does
- An energy recovery ventilator brings outdoor air in and pushes stale air out through one unit. A core or wheel between the two streams moves heat and some moisture from the hot, humid incoming air to the cool exhaust air, so fresh air arrives pre-cooled and partly pre-dried.
What it saves in Dubai
- The ERV recovers the gap between outdoor and indoor conditions, large in Dubai for eight months: 40°C and high humidity outside against 24°C inside.
- Savings depend on airflow, effectiveness and hours.
When a bypass helps
- On winter nights when outdoor air is cooler and drier than indoor air, the bypass routes fresh air around the core, so you cool the house for free.
Why an ERV alone does not fix humidity
- It has no refrigeration circuit. It reduces incoming moisture; it cannot remove moisture already indoors from showers, cooking, people or infiltration.
- In a humid flat it delivers air close to indoor humidity; the RH reading barely moves.
- For fresh air and dry air in one unit, see the fresh-air and heat-recovery dehumidifier; for ventilation alone, the energy recovery ventilator.
